The novella was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1953, and it was cited by the Nobel Committee as contributing to their awarding of the Nobel Prize in Literature to Hemingway in 1954. An attractive example of the first illustrated edition of the author's last major work of fiction published in his lifetime. Complete with the rubbed and nicked dustwrapper that has a few tiny chips and closed tears at the spine tips and panel edges which have been repaired with small pieces of tape to the underside.
The purple stain to the top edge has faded. The contents, are clean and throughout and without previous owners' stamps or inscriptions. A very good copy, the binding firm, the boards slightly bowed and the cloth lightly rubbed at the extremities. Illustrated throughout with engravings by C.
